Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers about our training programs, what to expect, and how we help you build a calmer, more confident relationship with your dog.
How do I know which program is right for my dog?
Every dog starts with a $50 in-person evaluation where we assess your dog's specific needs and your goals. We'll recommend the right program - whether it's our 2-week camping program, 4-week obedience, 6-week off-leash, or our behavioral modification program for serious issues.
Why does training take 4-6 weeks? Other trainers say they can do it faster.
If someone guarantees the same results in 1-2 weeks, they're likely using a compulsion-based approach—which means forcing the dog into behaviors through stress and pressure. Sure, it can look good on the surface, but the dog never had the chance to truly process, understand, and retain what they're learning.
Our programs give dogs time to build real understanding, confidence, and reliable decision-making. We're not just teaching commands—we're changing state of mind and creating lasting behavioral shifts. That takes time, repetition, and relationship-building. Rushing it increases the risk of long-term fallout, stress, and regression once the dog goes home.
We'd rather take the time to do it right than put your dog through unnecessary stress for a quick "fix" that doesn't last.
What happens during the board-and-train programs?
Your dog stays with us Monday through Friday and goes home on weekends (except for certain behavioral cases where the schedule may vary). During the week, we work on obedience, state of mind, and real-world exposure in parks, stores, and around distractions. You'll get daily video updates showing your dog's progress and a weekly private lesson where we teach you how to handle and reinforce what your dog is learning.
Will my dog's training stick after they come home?
Yes—if you follow through. Training isn't something we do to your dog and then hand them back "fixed." We train your dog and teach you how to maintain it. That's why we include weekly lessons during the program and offer lifetime support afterward. The training sticks when owners stay consistent and continue practicing what we teach.
Do you use punishment or harsh methods?
No. We use balanced training methods that include clear communication, structure, and fair consequences—but never fear, pain, or intimidation. Our goal is to build confidence and understanding, not compliance through stress. Every dog is worked as an individual, and we prioritize creating a positive relationship between you and your dog.
We've already tried other trainers and nothing worked. Why would this be different?
We specialize in the dogs other trainers turn away—the fearful, anxious, reactive, and aggressive cases. What sets us apart is how deeply we look at each dog's state of mind, not just their behavior. We don't just teach commands; we work to understand what's driving the behavior and address it at the root. Plus, we don't disappear after the program ends—we offer lifetime support because we genuinely care about your dog's long-term success.
Is my dog too aggressive/fearful for your program?
We regularly work with severe behavioral cases that other trainers won't accept. Our Wild Child program is specifically designed for dogs with serious issues. During the evaluation, we'll be honest about what's possible - but we've successfully rehabilitated dogs that owners thought were beyond help.
Can I visit my dog during training?
Dogs go home with you every weekend! This unique approach lets you practice what they're learning while still getting intensive professional training during the week. The weekly private lessons ensure you're learning alongside your dog's transformation.
How far do you travel for evaluations?
We're based in Gettysburg, PA and primarily serve the surrounding area. Evaluations must be done in person, though we occasionally accept video evaluations with trainer approval. Contact us to discuss your location.
Why is board-and-train more expensive than group classes?
You're investing in 40+ hours of professional one-on-one training weekly, plus real-world practice in stores, parks, and public spaces. Compare this to one hour per week in a group class. Our programs create permanent transformation in weeks, not months of classes that may never address your specific issues. The weekly owner training ensures lasting results.
What's included in the program cost?
The program cost covers everything related to your dog's training: boarding (Mon-Fri for most programs), all training sessions, daily personalized video updates, weekly private lessons with you, and lifetime support after the program ends. We provide the training collar and 6-foot leash used during the program. You'll need to have a place bed at home (we can recommend options) and a long line (20-30 feet) for practicing recall and distance work. There are no hidden fees—what you see is what you pay.
Are you certified/qualified?
Both trainers are AKC Evaluators, K9 CPR & First Aid certified, with over a decade of professional experience each. Nicole has narcotics detection certification and has trained service dogs, protection dogs, and hundreds of pet dogs. We've built our reputation specifically on handling cases other trainers couldn't solve.
Will I know how to handle my dog after training?
Absolutely! The weekly Friday lessons are specifically designed to transfer skills to you. By the time your dog graduates, you'll have had multiple hands-on training sessions learning exactly how to maintain and reinforce their commands. You won't be left guessing.
I'm worried my dog will be traumatized or lose their personality
Our goal is to help your dog become the best version of themselves - calmer and more confident, not broken or shut down. The daily videos let you see your dog's personality shine through as they learn. We build trust and communication, not fear.
Do I need to buy special equipment for training?
Not much. We provide the training collar and 6-foot leash that we use during the program. You'll want to have a place bed at home for your dog to practice their "place" command, and we recommend getting a long line (20-30 feet) for recall and distance work. We're happy to point you toward what we recommend if you're not sure what to get.

A HUGE shout out to Nicole at GypsyK9 Solutions. When Ranger went to her 4 weeks ago for board and train, he thought he was the king of the house, fearful of a few things, jumped on people because he was over excited, etc. 4 weeks later and he is calmer, listens a lot better and is all around a better well behaved pup. In all honesty he is like a whole different dog. He has some things to master yet, but with time and using the tools Nicole gave us, I am more confident now then ever that he will master them all.

You can stop your dog trainer search right now. If you’re seeing this, you’ve found one of the very best trainers in Nicole and GypsyK9Solutions. Discipline, passion, talent, honest feedback, and results are what will be delivered whether your dog needs obedience, behavior modification, confidence, an off leash life, or more. Watch their videos, talk to Nicole, ask the hard questions. You’ll see. Nicole, I love what you do and how you do it to change and improve the lives of the dogs and their handlers. Simply amazing, you are.
We had great interactions with Nicole and Rachel. If we had questions, they were quick to respond and always helpful. Rachel was his primary trainer and she treated Remi like he was her own. Every Monday morning, he was excited to see her and would trot off without turning back. I would highly recommend Gypsy K9 Solutions if you want to have a personable experience and great training.

We rescued a 2yo pit mix. Nicole and Rachel didn’t just train Paul; they made sure to teach us as well. They took the time to thoroughly explain everything, making sure we understood not just what to do, but why it would help Paul be better. Because of their support, we’ve learned so much about Paul’s needs, behaviors, & how to build a positive relationship.

I cannot thank the lovely ladies of GypsyK9Solutions enough!! They were super helpful, accommodating and very pleasant to work with. They helped my 3year old, almost 70lb American bully/Pitbull learn to walk nicely on a leash, helped her tremendously with her confidence building and were extremely knowledgeable. I can't recommend them enough!!
